Mary Eliza Porter1,2

ID#1320, b. about 1813, d. 25 October 1865
Father: not yet identified.
Mother: not yet identified.

Birth date: about 22 October 1814 (Calculated date based on the reported transcription from her gravestone that her age at death was 51 years 3 days.)3 It has also been reported that Mary was born about 1813.4 As a further complication, another source reported that Mary was born about 1808: her age was recorded as 59 in the Death Register, which would calculate to a birth year circa 1808. However, that year is not supported by any of the census records that I have found, so I suspect that her age at death was simply recorded incorrectly.5
Birth place: Maryland.4

Commonly known by her middle name, Eliza.5

Mary married John L. Gibson.

Eliza died from heart disease on 25 October 1865 in Clay District, Marshall County, Virginia. The informant was Miles Bonar.5 Eliza's body was interred in the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Fork Ridge Road, Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia; her name appears on the gravestone as "Mary E. Gibson." The inscription reportedly reads, "Aged 51 Yrs. 3 Ds." Note, however, that the transcriber stated that the stone was hard to read.6,3
