At age 75, William died on 19 May 1924 at Fork Ridge, Cameron District, Marshall County, West Virginia.2 He was interred on 21 May 1924 in the Beeler Station Christian Church Cemetery, Rt. 250, Marshall County, West Virginia. His name reportedly appears on the gravestone as "William L. Pierce," with an inscription that reads, "Civil War, Co A 17th W.Va. Inf."2,3

Commonly known as Nancy - I'm not sure if it was just a nickname or was actually her middle name.

An alternate spelling of Nancy's married surname is Mathew.

Nancy married William R. Matthew on 15 April 1841 in Monongalia County, Virginia. The ceremony was performed by Revd. Francis H. Read.2,4

At age 39, Nancy died from diptheria on 19 May 1860 at Lick Run, Taylor County, Virginia.3

Mary E. Matthew

At age 72, Mary died from pneumonia on 4 January 1918 at Fairmont, Marion County, West Virginia.1

An obituary was published the West Virginian (Fairmont, WV) of 1/5/1918. The following is a transcription of that obituary:

"Mrs. Mary E. Summers, aged 72 years, wife of William Summers died last night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Matthews on Owen avenue. She was a daughter of William and Mary Murphy Matthews and was born in Taylor county in 1845. Her husband died fourteen years ago. Two sisters, Susan Matthews of Grafton and Mrs. Joe Summers of Calhoun county and a brother, Eli Matthews of Ohio, survive. She was a member of the M.P. denomination. Funeral services will be made tomorrow and interment will be made in the Pride cemetery on Bunners Ridge by Undertaker Jenkins.
