Eliza Taylor1

ID#3003, b. about 1836, d. 29 June 1865
Parents: James and Mary A. Taylor.1

Birth date: about 18362 or about 1838.1 Yet another source on Find A Grave reports a birth date of 1833, which would give an age of 32 as shown on her gravestone. The problem is that the deterioration of her stone makes the death date hard to read ... the month could be Jan. or Jun., the day is definitely 29, but the year could be 1865 as reported there, or it could be 1868 which would also make Eliza 32 years old if she was born in the 1836/37 timeframe. I hope to eventually find something to settle the issue.3
Birth place: Marshall County, Virginia.1

Eliza married John Love on 22 February 1860 in Marshall County, Virginia. W. J. Alexander certified that he united the couple in marriage.1

I had concluded that Eliza apparently died sometime between 1865 and 1869 as her last known child was born circa 1865, and John was a widower when he remarried in March 1869. As noted previously, I found a Find A Grave memorial with a photo of her deteriorated gravestone that reported a death date of 29 June 18653; however, I'm not totally convinced that date is correct based on what little birth info I have found and knowing that her age at death was 32 years. Interred in the Dallas Presbyterian Cemetery, Dallas, Marshall County, West Virginia, her name appears on the gravestone as "Eliza, wife of John Love". An additional inscription reportedly reads, "DIED Jun 29, 1865, Aged 32, Daughter of James & M___?." There seems to be sufficient room that it may have read James & Mary (or M.) Taylor. The inscription continues with a verse that is not readable.3

Father: John Love

Birth date: about 1861

According to courthouse records, Clara died from lung disease on 19 March 1880 in Clay Township, Marshall County, West Virginia. Although the death record identified Clara's parents as "Jno. and M. J.," Mary J. was actually her step-mother.2

In contrast to the info recorded in the death register, Clara's gravestone indicates that she died 10 days later on the 29th of March, and that her age at death was 19 years 4 months 10 days vs. 18 years 4 months 10 days.3 Interred in the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Fork Ridge Road, Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia, her name appears on the gravestone as "Clara A." George W. Love1

ID#3007, b. January 1870, d. 1929
Father: John Love
Mother: Mary Jane Aston

Birth date: January 1870.1
As George's gravestone shows his year of birth as 1869, I first though that he might have been born in December as he would still have been five months old at the time of the 1870 federal census on 01 June 1870. However, that census shows the month of birth if it was within the year ... and George's reported month is Jan. As the census event occurred much closer to George's birth than his death and burial, it is logical to assume that any error regarding his birth is more probable as time passed. For that reason, I have chosen January 1870 to be the correct date until I find evidence otherwise.2
Birth place: Marshall County, West Virginia.3,1

George married Dessie R. Hukill on 4 July 1889 at Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. The ceremony was performed by Wm H. Cooke, a minister of the Presbyterian Church.4 The couple had obtained a marriage license on 2 July 1889 in Brooke County, West Virginia.3

George died in 1929.2 Interred in the Park Cemetery, Garrettsville, Portage County, Ohio, his name appears on the gravestone as "George W. Love." Plot: Sec I, row 04. A single gravestone was used for George, his wife, Dessie H., and his parents, John and Mary J.2

Vivian S. Harris1

ID#3017, b. about 1878
Father: not yet identified
Mother: not yet identified

Birth date: about 1878
Birth place: Missouri.1
Vivian was recorded as being a grandson of George Harris, ID# 249, in the 1880 U.S. Census; Vivian's birthplace was Missouri, his father's was left blank, and his mother's birthplace was Ill(inois). While two other grandchildren were also in the household, they were the children of John and Clara Harris who were born in Illinois and Missouri respectively.

As it's known that John was born in Illinois, is it possible that "Ill" was written in the column for Vivian's mother rather than his father by mistake? On the other hand, if Vivian's mother was in fact born in Illinois, then it seems that his mother wouldn't have been Clara, who was born in Missouri. It seems that Vivian may have been the child of one of John and Martha's other children. If you know who the parents of Vivian were, please let me know.1
