William died at age 51 on 22 February 1914, probably at Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia. The cause of his death is simply listed as "Complication." Although the column heading in the death register indicates that Moundsville was the place of his birth, that column was commonly used for the place of death in death registers. The word "birth" would usually have been crossed out and replaced with "death" - the fact that this page doesn't have that notation makes it questionable. However, William's marriage record states that he was born in Belmont County, Ohio, seeming to corroborate the idea that Moundsville was his place of death.²

Birth date: April 1884.¹ Conflicting evidence indicates that Minnie was born on 21 August 1884. The accuracy of this date is questionable due to the fact that it was originally recorded as June (day is unclear) but that had been crossed out and changed. The birth register page began with line 62, but another entry was made above that line. All the entries in lines 62 through 73 had been crossed out and changed, but it was not simply due to everything being off by one line. As a result, the validity of these entries gives me pause.² Although a census record is not usually considered to be more accurate than a birth register, in this case, the date given for the birth of Minnie's brother was proven accurate by his birth record - and that makes it seem possible that the date given to the census enumerator for Minnie's birth may indeed be the accurate month. More research is needed.
